Dog Charities – Canine Companions for Independence

Combining the love of dogs and mankind to produce an amazing charity!

Canine Companions for Independence is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

1-9-14 Bringing Kimber Home

See this furry puppy? This is the day I picked her up from the Canine Companions for Independence North Central Regional Training Center in Delaware, Ohio and brought her into my home.

Service dog

This adorable bundle of love is a service puppy in training. Over the next 18 months I will raise her, love her, feed her, care for her and train her in the 30 commands that she will need to go on to Advanced Training with the hope of becoming a service dog for a child or an adult with a physical disability other than blindness. And as I said many times before, all this is done for FREE.

Volunteers raise the puppies for free so that the people who need these dogs can get them for free. It’s as simple as that.

Each year, my online store WelcomePup.com donates a portion of their profits to Canine Companions for Independence. But on a personal level, I support Canine Companions for Independence by raising money and helping with their annual fundraiser, DogFest Walk ‘n Roll – Cleveland.

Every year across the nation, Canine Companions for Independence hosts DogFest Walk ‘n Roll, a family friendly, dog friendly dog walk to raise money for this great organization. These highly trained service dogs change lives! The dogs not only help with physical tasks, but they provide emotional support and confidence and bridge the social gap between the service dog team and the able-bodied world. The need is great.

This year’s walk will be on August 22, 2015 from 9 a.m. to noon at Hudson Springs Park in beautiful Hudson, Ohio. Dogs and owners will spend their morning walking around a beautiful 1.8 mile lake (or walk as far as they want to go) and afterwards be entertained by jugglers, face painting, a child’s hedge maze, an agility course, photo opp with our giant inflatable dog, Independence, and so much more! All day of event festivities are free of charge.

If you cannot walk with us but would like to donate to my team, click here! Kimber and I will walk for you! My personal goal is to raise $1,000–and I’m half way there! The DogFest Walk ‘n Roll Cleveland goal is a total of $60,000. All donations go directly to the dogs. That’s why we do what we do.

We certainly could use your help. Here’s an opportunity to give from your abundance to help those with abundant need. Thanks for your support and God bless!

  1. i find it fascinating that dogs can be helpful to disabled humans just like humans can be helpful to disabled dogs.
