I was given a bench seat cover by Kurgo in exchange for an honest review of their product. This product review has a twist at the end–literally!
There is one thing you can say about Kurgo dog products–they are made very well. The Car Seat Cover has a lifetime warranty, which means Kurgo unconditionally guarantees their product against manufacturing defects for the life of their product.
Out of the box this durable waterproof double-stitched seam canvas bench seat cover looked simple enough to install. It was. I’ll show you how!
This is what it looked like out of the box. This is not a sexy fabric folks. This is a practical fabric. This is canvas and it’s going to look like canvas, but it’s durable, waterproof and easy to clean or scrub. It will protect your seats. It will get the job done!
The seat cover has two black loops on top (to be slipped over the rear bench headrest), an adjustable black strap that adjusts behind the bench seat you are covering to provide a snug fit, and a thin elastic cord under seat attachment. The under seat attachment has a single barrel cord lock that keeps the canvas from slipping off the bottom bench cushion. That’s a good thing.
Easy to install instructions are included in the box, but you don’t really need them. It’s a logical installation.
First, unbuckle the back strap and lay the bench seat cover over the seat you wish to protect pocket side up. Slip one of the black adjustable loops over your headrest and adjust strap to fit.
Smooth the seat cover. The canvas will be wrinkled coming out of the box. I could have hand washed the cover with cold water and a mild detergent or put it in my front loader on the gentle cycle. Then I could’ve smoothed out the wrinkles and hung it outside to dry. (DO NOT DRY IN THE DRYER!) But because it’s been raining for days on end, I skipped that part. So please excuse the wrinkles.
Next, slip the second black loop over the other headrest. Smooth out the canvas and get ready to adjust the straps.
Here is the elastic cord that I told you about. Put the cord under the seat, push the lock on the plunger to tighten and release. Do the same on the other side.
On both sides of the canvas cover, pull out the back straps, wrap them around the back of the covered bench and fasten. Tighten strap to adjust.
Voile! You’re done. Here is the final product. The canvas bench seat is 55 inches wide and covers the entire bench on standard SUVs. I am demonstrating this on my Jeep Liberty. For extra large vehicles, the seat cover may not provide side-to-side coverage. I suggest measuring your bench before you buy.
There are cool features sewn into this canvas cover, like a center pocket where you could store poop bags, leashes, collapsible water dishes, etc. Notice the nice piping. The canvas cover is very well made and covered my entire seat. But wait a minute! What if I needed to use the seat belts?
Kurgo thought of everything. These cute little velcro flaps open to reveal seat belt openings. Just thread the seatbelt and buckle through the flaps. Easy.
The Kurgo bench seat cover was nice enough, but something about it just wasn’t for me. I said to myself, “Bonnie, you’ll probably never use this.”
You know why? My dogs don’t ride in the backseat of my Jeep. My dogs are hauled in the cargo area and lay on a memory foam mattress.
So what did I do next? I took the Kurgo Bench Seat Cover off.
And installed it in the cargo area!
Why not! Right? I turned it around and put the black straps over the headrests of the rear bench. You can hardly see them!
Look how cool this turned out. Now dog hair won’t collect on the carpeted back seat and my dogs can still have the advantage of the memory foam underneath! Even with the product turned around, the pockets are still practically placed and readily accessible, especially the one up front that you can access immediately when you open the hatch. That’s a great pocket to store your leash. Then just clip and go!
So there you have it. Now I will use this canvas cover!
I think the product does a great job. It’s out-of-the-box easy to install and will keep hair and dirt out of the back seat of your vehicle…or the cargo area! Gotta love innovation. Come on Kimber. Let’s go!
